The Kansas City Chiefs fell short in their bid to become the first team in NFL history to three-peat as Super Bowl champions. Yet, after getting blown out 40-22, it’s clear that the Chiefs have some work to do before they can return to the NFL’s pinnacle.
Fresh off their Super Bowl loss, it’s time to look at five offseason moves for the Chiefs to bounce back when the 2025 NFL season kicks off.
Re-sign Trey Smith

Once again, the Chiefs’ biggest offseason priority is to reinforce the offensive line. They’ve been here before when Kansas City fell to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Super Bowl LV. They responded by overhauling the trenches, leading to the addition of Joe Thuney. This time, the Chiefs need to make sure they don’t lose Trey Smith, who’s coming off his first Pro Bowl season.

Sign Stefon Diggs

The Chiefs need more playmakers on offense and Stefon Diggs could be just what they’re looking for. Coming off an ACL tear, Diggs could have a smaller market than if the four-time Pro Bowl receiver were healthy. Plus, he wants to play for a contender and the Chiefs are always knocking on the door.

Sign Ronnie Stanley

The Chiefs need offensive line reinforcements and it starts at offensive tackle. One potential solution could be to sign former All-Pro left tackle Ronnie Stanley, who’s coming off a bounce-back season that earned him the 21st-best pass block grade among tackles per Pro Football Focus. If the Chiefs can get him to return to elite form, Stanley could be the team’s blindside protector for multiple years.

Replace Nick Bolton with Dre Greenlaw

Nick Bolton is coming off his third season with 100 or more tackles, which could see the 24-year-old land a lucrative contract in free agency. However, the Chiefs might be able to save some money and upgrade at the position by signing the 27-year-old Dre Greenlaw, who’s battled Achilles concerns but has shown the ability to be an elite coverage linebacker. Coming off a season that limited him to two games due to injury, Greenlaw could have a lower price tag in free agency.
Trade for Myles Garrett

If the Chiefs can carve out enough room in their budget to swing for the fences, they should consider adding a true impact player such as Myles Garrett. The former Defensive Player of the Year winner wants to play for a top contender, and the Chiefs would certainly qualify. Plus, trading two first-round picks for a proven talent at the top of his game would immediately boost Kansas City’s chances of returning to the Super Bowl.
