Most teams that fired their head coach did so promptly, on the first day after their regular season ended. Not the Miami Dolphins. They’re the latest team to move on from their head coach, bringing the total to eight NFL teams who are now seeking a new leader, exactly one quarter of the league.
So, what changed in Miami? One thing that changed since the season ended was the Baltimore Ravens surprisingly moving on from likely future Hall of Famer John Harbaugh.
Since Harbaugh was let go, his agent put out a report that at least seven teams have called, inquiring about his interest in filling their head coaching vacancy. Yesterday, we speculated that the Dolphins may be one of them.
Now that the Dolphins have since moved on from Mike McDaniel, we can’t help but speculate on Miami quickly pivoting to hiring Harbaugh instead. While Miami may have been concerned about another coach not being able to lead a winning effort in a short matter, Harbaugh is as proven as they come, he’s even won a Super Bowl as a head coach.
Of course, it takes two to tango, and with several other teams already showing strong interest in hiring Harbaugh, the Dolphins knew they’d have to act fast. Next, they’ll have to secure an interview with Harbaugh.
Ranking 14th on the NFL’s all-time wins list, Miami will have a hard time finding someone who’s more capable of getting them back to the playoffs. That could lead them to close in on their potential target rather quickly, especially if there’s a mutual interest.
