San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy put up an historical second half performance in his team’s win over the Detroit Lions in the NFC Championship Game this past Sunday.
The sophomore quarterback led his team back from a 17-point halftime deficit, doing his best Joe Montana impersonation in the process. It has the final pick in the 2022 NFL Draft set to lead his 49ers into Super Bowl LVIII against the Kansas City Chiefs on Feb. 11.
After San Francisco’s dramatic comeback, star pass rusher Nick Bosa spoke with Purdy in the locker room. He had two simple questions to ask of the young quarterback.
“Did you think you’d be this good? I think I’ve asked you this before. Like how much confidence did you have? ’Cause I was the second pick in the draft and I lacked confidence at times.”
Nick Bosa to Brock Purdy
“It’s all part of it, bro. It’s a game,” Purdy responded. The entire scene was pretty awesome.
In his typical dead pan way, Bosa also threw a ton of praise in Purdy’s direction. “Bro, the fact that you are doing this blows my mind.”

Purdy threw for north of 150 yards with 45-plus yards on the ground while completing 80% of his passes and not turning the ball over a single time during San Francisco’s second-half comeback. He’s the first quarterback regular season or postseason to accomplish that feat over the past three decades.
In the process, the former Iowa State star shut down the narrative that he’s simply a product of Kyle Shanahan’s system or a game manager. But as you can tell here, Purdy’s teammates have all of the confidence in him. What a great moment between the young quarterback and San Francisco’s best player.
