Despite being caught on video claiming he would make his New York Jets return very soon, Aaron Rodgers is trying to pump the breaks on the hype and pressure his comments put on him and the team.

Following the New York Jets loss to the Los Angeles Chargers on Monday Night Football, an exchange between Rodgers and Chargers defensive star Derwin James was caught on camera. James asked the future Hall-of-Famer when he would return to action, and Rodgers claimed “in a few weeks.”

The video of course went viral and made headlines across the country. Well, now Rodgers is trying to pour some cold water on the red-hot speculation about his return.

During his latest well-paid weekly appearance on “The Pat MacAfee” show, Rodgers was, of course, asked about his “in a few weeks,” comments. However, the NFL legend claimed his words were more a general tongue-in-cheek thought instead of an actual return timeline.

“It’d be nice to be able to get back in a couple of weeks,” Rodgers said. “That’s probably not anywhere near a realistic timeline. … It’s more of a phrase that didn’t have a specific timetable.”

In reality, the Green Bay Packers great suggested being back on the field in a “few fortnights” — or in six weeks — was more realistic for such a severe injury. In that case, a return on December 17 against the Miami Dolphins might be when the QB returns to action.
