It seems that while there are several teams that will make a push to trade for Aaron Rodgers this offseason, some have one specific concern about a potential deal.

For a second straight year, rumors are circulating that the Green Bay Packers could trade their franchise QB, (which surely would have a major effect on the Aaron Rodgers rookie cards market). However, this time around a deal to ship off one of the greatest players in franchise history seems as likely as ever, and recent reports back up that notion.

The situation is a result of a disappointing showing in 2022-2023 for the three-time MVP and the team’s offense. Plus, the 39-year-old great has $100 million left on the final two years of the three-year pact he signed with the team last year. Getting out from under that money and starting fresh with backup Jordan Love or another veteran quarterback is a sensible option for the team at this juncture.

Since the Packers were eliminated from playoff contention in the final week of the NFL season, several teams have been speculated as a possible destinations for Aaron Rodgers in a trade. But it seems as a move becomes more possible, some organizations are getting a little hesitant about a swap for a QB that could be ready to retire at any moment.

NFL teams concerned about Aaron Rodgers’ long-term dedication

Before he signed a massive three-year, $150 million extension with the Green Bay Packers last year, it looked more than possible that Rodgers could walk away from the sport altogether. That still is an option in the coming months and years for the mercurial superstar.

On Friday, ESPN NFL insider Jeremy Fowler reported on a morning edition of “Get Up” that some teams are balking at the idea of giving up a huge amount of unprotected draft capital for a player that may not be around more than one more season.

“The expectation, talking to teams around the league, is that the Jets will get involved with Aaron Rodgers [trade negotiations]. They’re going to try, they’re going to see what they can package. Some of the teams, I’m told, are concerned about his retirement. If he comes there [and] plays one year, that’s a bit of an issue. So you could see a draft package that includes conditional picks based on how many years he actually plays. But there are going to be several suitors. Raiders could get involved.”

The Las Vegas Raiders have the seventh overall pick, and the New York Jets own the 15th overall in the 2023 NFL Draft. Both would likely be a starting point in a potential Aaron Rodgers trade since the 10-time Pro Bowler is sure to make either team a Super Bowl contender next season.
