New details on what led the New York Yankees to put starting pitcher Domingo German on the restricted list have finally come to light.
Domingo German has had a roller coaster ride of a career with the New York Yankees. At times he has looked like a reliable major league-level starting pitcher and even peaked by winning a surprising 18 games during the 2019 season. And then there have been the times when he has had trouble taking to the mound or posted some rough numbers. Like he has in 2023 with a 5-7 record and 4.56 ERA.

In what has been a difficult and disappointing season for the pinstripes, things hit a new low point on Wednesday when the organization revealed that they had placed the 30-year-old on the restricted list — ending his season — and that he voluntarily submitted to taking part in inpatient treatment for alcohol abuse. It was the final result in what has been an ugly and mysterious situation that started with a suspension in July.
New York Yankees record (2023): 56-52

Throughout the situation, the Yankees have been vague and evasive when it comes to the details of this latest unpleasant situation with the seven-year MLB veteran. However, on Thursday SNY MLB insider Andy Martino revealed some new information on why German’s season is over.

On Tuesday night, after the team’s loss to the Tampa Bay Rays, the pitcher apparently “grew belligerent while in the clubhouse at Yankee Stadium.” Witnesses inside the locker room at the time claimed that German was definitely under the influence of alcohol and did not at all seem to be in control of his emotions.
Manager Aaron Boone and general manager Brian Cashman seemed to be shaken when talking about the situation and announcing the end of his season during a press conference on Wednesday.
This is the second time the New York Yankees starter has been a part of an ugly moment off the field. Four years ago there was an incident at a charity event in which he allegedly slapped his then-girlfriend. A follow-up MLB investigation focused on what happened at home later that night and resulted in an 81-game suspension.
