On Friday, New York Yankees big-ticket free agent addition Carlos Rodon revealed that his ongoing back issues could be something he and the team will have to deal with for a very long time.

The New York Yankees 2023 campaign has gotten off to a terrible start. After achieving their primary goal of re-signing reigning American League MVP Aaron Judge this winter, the organization followed that up by making a typical big free agent signing and added two-time All-Star Carlos Rodon on a massive six-year, $162 million deal.

However, year one of the deal has gotten off to a terrible beginning as the 30-year-old has yet to make a start in the regular season for the New York Yankees. After being sidelined with a forearm injury following his first spring training start, he has remained sidelined when he developed a back injury.

Unfortunately for the New York Yankees and Carlos Rodon, the injury has not improved and there is no clear idea of when he will debut for the team that is off to a 17-15 start to the season. Well, a new report on Friday gives the impression it could be a very long time before the eight-year veteran takes to the mound in New York.

New York Yankees record (2023): 17-15, last place in AL East

On Friday afternoon, Carlos Rodon told Yankees reporters that doctors informed him that his current back injury is “chronic,” and to address the injury he is expected to receive a cortisone injection in his back next week.

When the $162 million man was asked if a return at least by July was likely, his response was not promising. “I can’t put a timeline on anything. I’ll get this injection and I want to throw as soon as I can,” Rodon said.

The New York Yankees are currently mired in one of their worst starts to a season in quite some time as several key players have been sidelined with injuries, including Rodon and Judge.

They begin a series against the AL East-leading Tampa Bay Rays on Friday night.
