New York Jets reportedly targeting specific star receiver in first round of 2023 NFL Draft

Following the blockbuster trade for NFL legend Aaron Rodgers, the New York Jets could be making another weapon for the Green Packers great their primary focus when they are on the clock in the first round of the NFL Draft.

After a month of speculation and negotiations, the New York Jets and Green Bay Packers finally agreed to a deal to bring future first-ballot Hall-of-Famer Aaron Rodgers to the Empire State. With the four-time NFL MVP officially on the roster, the focus will now turn to further improving the team for a serious Super Bowl run in the 2023 season.

Even before Rodgers was acquired, the team was doing its part to land some impact players on offense. They signed Allen Lazard in free agency and were making a hard push for Odell Beckham Jr. earlier this month. After the three-time Pro Bowler chose to go to the Baltimore Ravens, it seems the organization is thinking about adding a strong third receiver through the NFL Draft.

AFC offensive Rookie of the Year Garrett Wilson is already on the roster and likely to be Rodgers’ top target, however, it looks like the New York Jets are taking a hard look at adding his college teammate on Thursday.

New York Jets record (2022): 7-10, last place in AFC East

Earlier today, ESPN NFL Draft expert Matt Miller reported on the latest news about the New York Jets first-round selection hopes, and it seems their preference is to take the player many views as the top wide receiver in this year’s class.

“Based on conversations with people around the league and sources with knowledge of the Jets’ draft plans, the team has spent considerable time and resources doing work on another Buckeyes wide receiver. Jaxon Smith-Njigba, my top-ranked wideout, is expected to be off the board by the time the Jets draft at No. 15 but if you’re looking for a Thursday night surprise, this could be it.”

Miller also notes that the Packers could take him at No. 13, after swapping first-round picks in the Rodgers trade. Which would be fitting after New York signed Lazard away from Green Bay last month.
