As April approaches, 2024 NFL Draft rumors are as hot and heavy as ever. That even includes the New York Jets, who are currently primed to pick tenth on April 25 when the three-day event kicks off.

With a 40-year-old Aaron Rodgers entrenched as the starting quarterback, there’s one obvious goal in mind, and that’s to compete for a Super Bowl. Yet, during the draft process, as much as teams want to fill needs, drafting the best player available can lead to even better results in the long run.

However, as mentioned, the Jets are prioritizing a chance to win now, and with just two picks in the top 100 selections, general manager Joe Douglas won’t have many opportunities to draft a player who can make an immediate impact. The tenth and 72nd picks will provide two chances, but what if the Jets could extend that number to three chances or even four?

Suddenly, the Jets would have a lot more young potential on their roster than they would by simply standing pat and selecting a player at 10 and 72. Yet, according to ESPN’s NFL insider Rich Cimini, the Jets may be looking to take the quantity over quality approach when the NFL Draft kicks off.

“What they’d really like is a trade proposal from a quarterback-needy team, which would allow them to acquire a top-100 pick. A handful of teams behind them, most notably the Minnesota Vikings (11th), Denver Broncos (12th) and Las Vegas Raiders (13th), might be motivated to move up.”

Cimini has a good point. There are several QB-needy teams picking behind the Jets who still need a future franchise quarterback. While the Vikings jumping one slot to No. 10 may not make much sense being that they hold the very next pick, it is still possible if they want to ensure another team won’t bunny hop ahead.

Yet, the Broncos and Raiders could make a lot more sense as a potential trade partner for the Jets, being that they have motivation to leap ahead of the Vikings at No. 11. Plus, trading from 12 or 13 to 10 shouldn’t cost much extra draft capital, probably just an additional top-100 pick as Cimini suggests the Jets are seeking.

The Broncos own the 76th pick. Meanwhile, the Raiders boast the 44th and 77th picks in addition to their first-round selection.
