The New York Jets were eliminated from playoff contention weeks ago, ruling out quarterback Aaron Rodgers for the remainder of the 2024 season. With the franchise now looking ahead to 2024, all eyes fall on the future of the coaching staff.
New York already announced that general manager Joe Douglas and head coach Robert Saleh will return next season. Both were on the hot seat after an underwhelming 2023 season, but support from Rodgers ensured they’d be back next season. However, not everyone on the coaching staff is apparently safe.

The NFL coaching carousel in 2024 could result in teams poaching top defensive assistants away from New York, but the firings would come on the other side of the ball. After fielding one of the worst NFL offenses in 2023, one key Jets’ coach seems to be on his way out the door.
According to Tony Pauline of Sportskeeda, league insiders believe that the Jets’ coaching staff will undergo changes early this offseason with New York’s offensive line coach Keith Carter likely one of the first who will be “shown the door” after the regular season.
New York could be better off without Carter. According to Pauline, he has a poor reputation amongst players in the NFL and some around the league believe the Jets’ coaching staff had a “death wish” by hiring him. Some around the league believe the poor play in the trenches and the lack of player development falls on Carter.

Carter, age 41, was hired by New York as its offensive line coach and run game coordinator in January 2023. Before joining the team, he served as the offensive line coach for the Tennessee Titans.
Entering NFL games today, the Jets have allowed the third-most sacks per game (3.9) and they’ve surrendered the fifth-highest sack rate (9.78 percent) in the NFL.
