New York Jets projected to trade up by NFL Draft expert with likely target identified

The New York Jets made a big move for Aaron Rodgers earlier on Tuesday, signing star wide receiver Mike Williams away from the Los Angeles Chargers in NFL free agency.

Adding Williams to the mix to go with fellow wide receiver Garrett Wilson is huge. With Rodgers sidelined for pretty much the entire 2023 season, Jets wide receivers behind the aforementioned Wilson struggled big time.

Coming off a torn ACL that saw him miss all but three games last season, it’s not yet known whether the Jets can rely on Williams to return to pre-injury form.

This will likely lead to New York seriously considering another wide receiver relatively early in the 2024 NFL Draft. We also have some rather interesting information on this.

In his most-recent mock draft, NFL Media’s Daniel Jeremiah has New York making a big move up the board from 10th overall to the fifth selection with the aforementioned Chargers. He also has the Jets nabbing former Ohio State standout Marvin Harrison Jr. with that pick.

“The Jets are all-in with a veteran quarterback and they recently acquired two offensive tackles to shore up the O-line. They desperately need another playmaker in the passing game to complement Garrett Wilson, so they trade up to select Harrison, the top receiver in the draft and Wilson’s former Ohio State teammate.”

The reasoning is sound. New York is certainly going all-in with Rodgers after the four-time NFL MVP was injured a few snaps into his Jets career.

General manager Joe Douglas just recently signed eight-time Pro Bowl left tackle Tyron Smitht to protect Rodgers’ blindside. New York also traded for starting right tackle Morgan Moses.

Offensive tackle was a need for the Jets before they made those two moves.

The idea here would be to use future draft capital as a way to provide Rodgers with an NFL-ready talent and one of the best wide receiver prospects to enter the draft in years.

Over the course of the past two seasons with the Buckeyes, Harrison Jr. recorded a combined 144 receptions for nearly 2,400 yards with 28 touchdowns. He’s seen as an elite-level prospect.
