For the past five years, as the team GM, Joe Douglas has been the top decision-maker in charge of the New York Jets roster. His leadership has led to the addition of big names like Aaron Rodgers, Garrett Wilson, and Sauce Gardner, to name a few.
Yet, despite their talented roster and strong coaching staff led by Robert Saleh, the Jets have never made the playoffs under Douglas’s guidance. Now a Jets insider is revealing how the rest of the league perceives Douglas.
Despite being New York Jets GM, Joe Douglas reportedly doesn’t exert his power
Joe Douglas is one of just 32 NFL GMs, which means he’s subject to plenty of criticism. The latest analysis comes from NFL insider Tony Pauline of Sportskeeda, who has heard from several league sources on the state of the New York Jets front office.
According to Pauline’s sources, Douglas “doesn’t exert his power and is not the big dog in the organization that people expect him to be.”
Others have said Douglas is “too nice for his own good” and “doesn’t lay down the hammer when he’s supposed to.”
We rarely see an NFL GM get five seasons at the helm without any playoff appearances, but it’s hard to argue with some of the pieces the Jets have put together. Now they just need to figure out how to get over the hump.
