Aaron Rodgers is still looking for a job for the 2025 NFL season. Yet, his former team, the New York Jets, have moved on long ago, not only by releasing the four-time NFL MVP from their roster but also by signing his replacement, inking Justin Fields to a two-year, $40 million contract.
Fields is the Jets’ presumed starting quarterback for 2025, but that doesn’t mean he may not still face some competition from within. It could even come from a prospect in the 2025 NFL Draft class.

New York Jets could be plotting to pair Justin Fields with Jaxson Dart

The New York Jets already addressed the quarterback position in free agency, buying them a lot more flexibility as they prepare to use the seventh overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. Yet, odds are they won’t be investing the seventh overall pick in a quarterback.
Their approach could be different with the 42nd overall pick in the draft, where a quarterback prospect like Jaxson Dart could still be available.
Recently, ESPN’s Jets insider Rich Cimini reported, “There’s a lot of Jets buzz surrounding Dart.”
While he appears to be on the rise throughout the pre-draft process, Dart is still viewed as a fringe first-round prospect who may have better luck landing in the second round. Either way, it appears the Jets are a team to watch.
