A new report has revealed that the New York Giants are once again interested in bringing Seattle Seahawks great and Denver Broncos veteran Russell Wilson to Gotham.

Ahead of the start of NFL free agency next week, the future of quarterback Russell Wilson has been one of the biggest stories in the league. With the 35-year-old set to have some massive contract guarantees kick in soon, the Broncos are expected to release the nine-time Pro Bowler in the coming days. However, the organization has allowed him to test his value around the league early.

It was reported earlier this week that Denver is letting Wilson and his representation seek out a trade partner. On Friday, ESPN reported that both the Pittsburgh Steelers and New York Giants are meeting with the signal caller today to see if a move to their teams would be a fit in 2024.

Let’s make this clear. The Steelers or Giants will not be making a trade for Russell Wilson. However, this opportunity does give them a chance to speak with him early and see if more conversations are worth it when he eventually hits free agency in the next few days.

The New York Giants being interested in the NFL great is not a shocking development for several reasons. Firstly, the regime of head coach Brian Daboll and general manager Joe Schoen had an interest in acquiring the QB two years ago when the Seattle Seahawks placed him on the trade market.

Now, after another injury-filled season from incumbent starting QB Daniel Jones, the organization seems ready to move on from the former first-round pick. While reports have stated that they would love to get one of the top QB prospects in the 2024 NFL Draft, they are unlikely to land one of the players worth taking when they are on the clock at six. And none of the teams in the top three are planning to trade out of those spots.

With Wilson set to make $39 million from the Broncos in 2024, he allegedly would be open to taking a low-cost contract if given a real chance to be a starter next season. The Giants certainly could offer that, or at the very least, a QB competition in camp versus Jones. The best scenario might be to trade Jones — who would have some value on the trade block — sign Wilson for two years and draft a young QB in April.

The New York Giants offensive line and lack of pass-catching weapons should give Wilson pause, but at least from the team’s perspective, it makes a lot of sense.
