A new report suggests that the New York Giants may have identified the player they view as a potential replacement for Saquon Barkley in the 2024 NFL season.

The Giants are just a few weeks away from what will be a very important NFL Draft for the organization. There have been rumblings for weeks about their potential interest in finding a long-term replacement for starting quarterback Daniel Jones in Round 1. However, if those plans don’t pan out, selecting an impact player at wide receiver or on the offensive line is a strong possibility.

However, the organization has a big hole to fill at the running back spot after homegrown star Saquon Barkley took his talents to rivals the Philadelphia Eagles in free agency. The team signed veteran Devin Singletary in March, but after five seasons in the league, he has proven he is not a game-changer talent out of the backfield and is better in a platoon.

The NFL Draft could offer the franchise a chance to take a player who could become a future star at the position and according to NFL reporter Aaron Wilson, the New York Giants may have their sights set on a specific player.

“Florida State running back Trey Benson is drawing heavy interest from Giants per a league source, could see them making a move to land him,” he wrote on X, formerly Twitter, on Thursday. Benson is projected to be drafted toward the middle or end of Round 2.

After tearing his ACL, MCL, lateral and medial meniscus, as well as a torn gracilis tendon a few years ago Benson finally returned to the Seminoles in 2023 and had a strong season for the top 10 team. He has explosive talents and the potential to be a legit RB1 in the league if his skills are developed further.
