The New York Giants are reportedly not letting their current offensive coordinator, Mike Kafka, interview for the same role with another team despite allegedly being a source of constant frustration for head coach Brian Daboll.

This is a big offseason for the Giants. Not only will they be looking to improve the roster after a 6-11 showing in 2023 but there is a whole bunch of new pressure on head coach Brian Daboll. In January, a wild report revealed that Daboll has a reputation for blaming his assistants and not taking accountability for their failures in his two seasons as head coach.

Reports claim offensive coordinator Mike Kafka is often a constant source for Daboll’s frustrations, especially during last season when the offense struggled mightily. However, despite his dissatisfaction with his performance, Daboll and the Giants organization are unwilling to let him go elsewhere.

New York Giants block Mike Kafka from interviewing for different job

On Saturday night, CBS Sports NFL insider Jonathan Jones reported that “The Giants blocked Kafka from interviewing for the Seahawks OC position.” Last week, Seattle finally filled the last NFL head coach opening when they hired Baltimore Ravens defensive coordinator Mike Macdonald, but Kafka also interviewed for that position as well.

Clearly, the Seahawks value the 36-year-old’s talents and want him on the staff in a different role despite rumors suggesting Daboll is often unhappy with the job he has done for the Giants. With Daboll’s job possibly on the line in 2024, due to the reports of a “toxic” atmosphere developing in the locker room, one would assume he would want to clear out the assistants he does not think are living up to their roles with the team.

However, the organization deciding to block him from trying to take his talents elsewhere either shows that Daboll is realizing he needs to make major changes in his approach with his staff and show more appreciation or the front office is making decisions without their head coach’s approval.

Defensive coordinator Don “Wink” Martindale resigned in frustration from his post last month after Daboll fired two of his top assistants.
