A new report claims the New York Giants have a preferred option in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft and it is a player that very well could fall to them at the sixth pick overall.

One of the biggest talking points for the Giants this offseason is what they will do at the quarterback spot next season. After a breakout year in 2022, incumbent starting quarterback Daniel Jones regressed in the six games he started before suffering a season-ending ACL tear.

The former first-round pick has dealt with injury woes throughout his career, along with subpar seasons, and it has pushed the organization and fanbase to ponder life with a different starting QB in 2024. Earlier this week, Big Blue took a step in that direction when they traded for former Denver Broncos and Seattle Seahawks QB Drew Lock.

It was revealed after the deal that the Giants sold Lock on the chance to compete for the starting job in camp. However, it may not just be a competition between him and Jones because a new report claims the team is still interested in using their top pick in April on a QB.

On Friday, SNY New York Giants reporter Connor Hughes revealed that “The buzz is there that he’s the player the Giants want.” He also added that when speaking to executives around the NFL they were very complimentary of McCarthy’s abilities. Saying he will be a “better pro than college player,” has everything teams look for physically, and that “he’s also very coachable.”

  • JJ McCarthy age: 21 years old

McCarthy has quickly risen on draft boards in recent weeks, but fortunately for the Giants at six, there is a good chance he will fall to them at that spot since Caleb Williams, Drake Maye, and Jayden Daniels are expected to be the first three QBs taken in April.

McCarthy led Michigan to its first National Championship since 1997 when they beat the Washington Huskies earlier this year.
