After 20 years and six Super Bowl rings, the Tom Brady-Bill Belichick partnership was suddenly over. Everyone wanted to know why, but what we do know is that Brady went on to win another Super Bowl with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers the very next season, while the New England Patriots have struggled ever since.

Now, we’re getting more answers, thanks to an upcoming ten-part documentary titled The Dynasty, set to begin releasing on Apple TV+ on Friday, February 16.

When Tom Brady’s contract was set to expire with the New England Patriots in 2019, Bill Belichick and the front office reportedly weren’t willing to offer the two-year, $50 million contract the 42-year-old quarterback wanted. Brady then agreed to that same contract with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

“Me and coach Belichick, we did what we loved and competed for 20 years together. But I wasn’t going to sign another contract (in New England) even if I wanted to play until (I was) 50. Based on how things had gone, I wasn’t going to sign up for more of it.”

While the documentary will obviously get into far greater detail, some of the other descriptors that emerged when players described the atmosphere playing for Coach Belichick were:

Matthew Slater, “It was brutal”.

Rob Gronkowski mentions arriving at the Patriots facility and not wanting to get out of his car.

Wes Welker even compares Brady to an abused dog who keeps going back to work for Belichick.

Meanwhile, Brady is set to start a new career once the 2024 NFL season kicks off with FOX, but this documentary will shed even more light on where it all came apart in New England, ending, as they say, ‘The Dynasty.’
