Michael Malone is looking to win his first NBA title as a head coach. He’s also attempting to lead the Denver Nuggets to their first NBA championship in franchise history.
With Denver looking to close out the NBA Finals at home against the Miami Heat in Game 5 Monday evening, the veteran coach was asked how he’s feeling leading up to the monumental game. His response was all sorts of epic.
“I slept like a baby. I woke up every two hours and cried,” Michael Malone ahead of Game 5.
The entire give and take was absolutely hilarious.
Since then, everything hasn’t necessarily gone swimmingly for Malone in the Mile High City. Denver mussed out on the playoffs each of his first three seasons. The team had made it out of the conference semifinals just once over the previous four seasons before this year’s run.
Despite this, Malone’s tenure with the Denver Nuggets is the fourth-longest among head coaches behind Gregg Popovich, Erik Spoelstra and Steve Kerr. If he’s able to lead Denver to the title, Michael Malone will join those three in being the only current head coaches with their respective teams to win the NBA Championship.
No pressure, bud.
