
The NASCAR silly season hasn’t delivered much movement in terms of drivers this year, with most of the top racers in the Cup Series under contract. However, plenty is happening with NASCAR teams, which could include a potential merger.
The Instagram account nascarrumornostalgia, a well-known social media account for NASCAR rumors, passed along that multiple sources have said Legacy Motor Club could potentially buy into or merge with the Haas Factory Team.

“I’ve heard from a couple people now that Legacy Motor Club could be looking into buying or merging with the Haas Factory Team. That could mean the 41 charter and the entire Haas racing shop as well. My own theory is that this might be a plan B if this Rick Ware Racing lawsuit doesn’t go their way. Either way, sounds like LMC is in a serious hunt after a 3rd charter.”

Legacy Motor Club is currently involved in two lawsuits with other teams. Earlier this season, the team sued Rick Ware Racing regarding a charter agreement dispute. LMC claims it is supposed to receive a charter from RWR under a signed Charter Purchase Agreement for 2026 and alleges RWR is trying to back out of the deal. Rick Ware, owner of RWR, has said the deal is for 2027.
Last month, Ware agreed to sell RWR to T.J. Puchyr, former owner of Spire Motorsports. Legacy then filed a lawsuit against Puchyr for tortious interference, opposing his purchase of RWR. On Thursday, a North Carolina judge issued a temporary restraining order halting the sale.

Legacy could be exploring a merger with the Haas Factory Team as another path to adding a charter if the legal battle doesn’t go its way. If that were to happen, the No. 41 car driven by Cole Custer could be teamed up with the No. 42 car (John Hunter Nemechek) and the No. 43 car (Erik Jones).
In this scenario, LMC would obtain the third charter it wants, while Haas would no longer need to run a one-car team in the Cup Series. Last year, Haas also reached a deal that enabled the return of Formula 1 to Toyota after a 15-year absence from the sport.
This potential move could be the perfect pivot for Legacy if the saga with RWR does not play out favorably. If it happens, a third charter at LMC could potentially open up a Cup Series spot for Jesse Love next season.
