The next stop on what has turned into a holistic motorsports national tour for Katherine Legge is here debut in the NASCAR Cup Series.

After making her superspeedway debut in the ARCA Racing Series event at Daytona International Speedway, the 44-year-old will now try the Cup Series at Phoenix Raceway this weekend in the No. 78 for Live Fast Motorsports with funding from DROPLiGHT.

“Entering the NASCAR Cup Series is a dream come true,” said Legge in a statement from the team. “I’m excited to team up with Live Fast Motorsports for Phoenix, and to represent our sponsors DROPLiGHT and Sherfick Companies.

“Racing stockcars has been an incredibly fun and new challenge that’s given me a renewed sense of vigor for this sport. As always, I’m grateful for the opportunity to do what I love and am inspired by all of the effort, preparation and behind the scenes work it takes to get here.”

This is an open part-time car without a guaranteed starting spot but the field is not expected to be beyond capacity.

Legge also made her debut in the Chili Bowl Midget Nationals in January and has expressed a desire to try several different disciplines at this stage of her life and career. With that said, making more appearances in NASCAR seems to be a priority for the Sports Car and IndyCar veteran.

She has five NASCAR national series appearances, four in the Xfinity Series in 2018 and one in 2023. She also becomes the first woman to compete in a NASCAR Cup Series race since Danica Patrick competed in the 2018 Daytona 500.

During the Daytona ARCA test in January, Legge expressed a desire to make this a more permanent part of her driving rotation.

“I love stock car racing,” Legge said. “I have ever since I tried it for the first time in an Xfinity car. I’ve always wanted to do more. The opportunity and timing was right. It seems to me this is the era for me to try new things and getting the chance to do some really cool stuff. … Really, really, hoping this is the beginning of my stock car career.”
