The passion for live sports was clearly evident Sunday. The NASCAR at Darlington race drew fans unlike any live sporting event in three months.
NASCAR at Darlington was most-watched sporting event since Daytona 500
Sunday’s race — won by Kevin Harvick — the race was consumed by millions of viewers.
“According to FOX Sports, Sunday’s race at Darlington averaged 6.32 million viewers and was the most-watched competitive sports event on cable television since this year’s Daytona 500, which reached more than 7 million viewers,” shared Alex Andrejev of the Charlotte Observer.
The race earned a 3.7 television rating, per Nielsen.
Interestingly, this data includes plenty of NBA action. Remember, the Daytona 500 took place on Sunday, Feb. 16. The NBA season didn’t get suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic for almost an entire month afterward.
The numbers generated by the NASCAR event at Darlington are even more significant when compared to the virtual races put on by the league during the shutdown.
Sunday’s NASCAR race at Darlington may have gotten a big boost when there was a big crash before the first lap had even concluded. Thankfully nobody was injured.
Everyone is glad to have live sports back on their televisions. That’s an indisputable fact.
