The Detroit Tigers have a lot of questions to answer this winter. Will the Tigers trade or keep Tarik Skubal? Will Detroit pursue Alex Bregman for a second straight offseason? All of these questions surround the Detroit organization; however, it is looking at more options outside of Bregman and Skubal.

The Tigers are interested in signing Ha-Seong Kim for a second straight offseason, as reported by the Detroit Press’ Evan Petzold. Kim started the 2025 season with the Tampa Bay Rays but was eventually traded to the Atlanta Braves ahead of the MLB trade deadline.

In 2025, Kim hit five home runs and drove in 17 runs over 48 games. The 30-year-old infielder has been plagued with injuries over the last two seasons, but when healthy, he can break the 10 home run and 50 runs batted in marks. Kim’s biggest strength is his versatility and defense, which fit the way that Detroit plays baseball.

Instead of signing Bregman to play third base for six years, the Tigers could sign Kim to play third base, shortstop, and second base for two seasons. It may not be a flashy signing, but Kim would make the 2026 Tigers team better and more versatile in the infield.
