The Detroit Tigers are looking to improve their pitching while entertaining the possibility of trading Tarik Skubal. The previous report suggested that Detroit remains engaged in trade talks involving Skubal, but that it will take a massive haul to consider the idea.
However, what is the latest on the possibility of the Tigers moving the back-to-back Cy Young Award winner? Detroit has provided an update on the “Tarik Skubal Trade Rumors” at the MLB Winter Meetings.
Detroit Tigers’ Scott Harris addresses Tarik Skubal trade rumors
On Monday night, Tigers president of baseball operations Scott Harris discussed the organization’s offseason plans at the MLB Winter Meetings in Orlando. Harris was asked about the trade rumors involving Skubal, and provided an interesting response.
“I don’t believe in untouchables at any level, so like anyone in our organization,” Harris said. “It’s not a commentary on [Tarik Skubal] specifically. It’s sort of a blanket team-building approach. I can’t do my job without listening, without exploring anything that may or may not have legs. Some are going to be very likely moves, some are going to be extremely unlikely, but you can’t vet those opportunities unless you listen.”
Harris and the Tigers front office don’t provide much clarity on these types of questions, but it certainly seems like a trade for Skubal is on the table for the right offer. It doesn’t mean Detroit is going to trade Skubal, but if a team offers a “Hail Mary” offer to acquire him, Harris could pull the trigger and accept.
If the Tigers don’t trade Skubal, they should focus on maximizing the World Series window in 2026. If not, it would be beneficial to move the best pitcher in baseball for a massive haul. Either way, the Tigers have a tough decision to make this offseason, and it could end with Skubal on a new team.
