The Detroit Tigers are active in Orlando as the MLB Winter Meetings are underway. Detroit’s focus during the 2025 MLB offseason seems to be its pitching staff; however, the lineup needs upgrades, too. Could one of those upgrades in the lineup be free-agent third baseman Alex Bregman?

According to the Detroit Free Press’ Evan Petzold, the Tigers’ interest in Bregman has been “lukewarm,” but it could heat up with the Winter Meetings underway. Detroit was the runner-up for Bregman’s services last offseason after the Boston Red Sox swooped in late with a large contract.

In 2025, the Boston third baseman posted 18 home runs and 62 runs batted in over 114 games. Bregman suffered a right quad injury, which kept him out for a while. In fact, it was the fewest games that Bregman has played in a season since 2021 with the Houston Astros.

The Tigers need to upgrade their lineup, and Bregman would be the perfect fit at third base. To this point, Detroit has been focused on its pitching staff, but Bregman’s play and leadership are ideal for the organization. The Tigers can’t sit back this offseason, and pursuing Bregman for a second time should be on the agenda.
