The Cincinnati Reds are still looking for offensive players after Kyle Schwarber re-signed with the Philadelphia Phillies. Cincinnati was also linked to first baseman Pete Alonso before he signed with the Baltimore Orioles. Now, the Reds have been connected to an All-Star second baseman from the Tampa Bay Rays.

The Reds have discussed a trade with the Rays that would send second baseman Brandon Lowe to Cincinnati, as reported by The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal and Will Sammon. Lowe has been with Tampa Bay his entire MLB career, but has only played more than 130 games in two of his eight seasons.

In 2025, Lowe hit 31 home runs and drove in 83 runs over 134 games. When healthy, Lowe can reach 40 home runs and 100 runs batted in over 162 games, but that has been his most significant issue in MLB. If he were to be more available, it would be an excellent idea for the Reds to acquire his services.

Lowe has the power to be an elite hitter in Cincinnati; however, he will enter free agency after the 2026 season. The 31-year-old second baseman has a team-friendly contract, but it could end up being a rental. There are pros and cons to acquiring Lowe, and the Reds need to evaluate everything to make sure it is the right option.
