The Minnesota Vikings have a starting quarterback in Kirk Cousins that they are linked to financially for the next two seasons. In no way does mean general manager Rick Spielman was going to avoid this position throughout the 2021 NFL Draft.

After trading his way up and down the board, the longtime general manager landed former Texas A&M star quarterback Kellen Mond with the 66th overall selection in the third round.

Mond is among the most-underrated quarterbacks in the 2021 NFL Draft. The former Texas A&M star shined in a limited offense over the past three seasons — tallying 82 total touchdowns against 21 interceptions.

He has a prototypical frame at 6-foot-3, but is elusive in the pocket and can be a dual-threat quarterback in the backfield. Some have even compared Mond to former mid-round pick Dak Prescott of the Dallas Cowboys. In fact, their college careers somewhat paralleled one another.

A five-star recruit out of Florida back in 2017, Mond made history during his four seasons with Texas A&M. He joined only Tim Tebow and Dak Prescott as one of only three SEC quarterbacks with 9,000-plus passing yards and at least 1,500 rushing yards. In 2020.

As for a fit with the Minnesota Vikings, Mond can learn behind Cousins for a couple seasons and potentially take over down the road. Right now, the Vikings have only Jake Browning and Nate Stanley on the roster at quarterback behind Cousins.

Mond was our 45th-ranked prospect leading up to the 2021 NFL Draft.
