His New Orleans Saints took care of business against the Green Bay Packers in Week 1 with a blowout 38-3 win. Cornerback Marshon Lattimore is now being rewarded for his role in that and the success we’ve seen from him through the year.
The former NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year inked a whopping five-year, $97.6 million extension with New Orleans immediately after Sunday’s blowout win. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the deal includes $68.3 million in guarantees — the largest total for a cornerback in NFL history.
A top-11 pick out of Ohio State back in 2017, Marshon Lattimore has earned three Pro Bowl appearances in four seasons. That span has seen him record 55 passes defended, 10 interceptions and a touchdown.

He’s been a key cog for a Saints defense that continues to perform well under coordinator Dennis Allen. That included New Orleans holding Aaron Rodgers without a touchdown while picking off the reigning NFL MVP twice in Sunday’s season opener.
Marshon Lattimore contract
The average of $19.52 million on his new deal makes Lattimore the second highest-paid corner in the NFL behind Jalen Ramsey of the Los Angeles Rams. He just surpassed the likes of Marlon Humphrey (Baltimore Ravens) and Byron Jones (Miami Dolphins).
This is a pretty big deal for a cash-strapped Saints team. The stud defensive back was slated to hit free agency following the 2021 campaign. With him locked up, the organization can turn its attention to other players who are due for extensions.
