Los Angeles Rams still pursuing top wide receiver left in NFL free agency

While the Los Angeles Rams have made several notable moves to cut salaries this offseason, the team’s head coach claims they are still interested in the top receiver left in NFL free agency.

Many expected that the roster decisions the Los Angeles Rams made in 2021 and 2022 would eventually lead to a payroll reckoning this offseason. After a disastrous campaign trying to defend their Super Bowl win, cutting some major contracts from the roster was all but assured this month.

The first big domino to drop was the team cutting ties with Bobby Wagner after just one Pro Bowl-level season. The next came when they traded away superstar cornerback Jalen Ramsey in a move that did not net them the first-round pick they were reportedly hoping to land in a deal for the six-time Pro Bowler.

The organization is also reportedly interested in moving wide receiver Allen Robinson after one season with the franchise. Yet, despite all the cost-cutting the team has made this offseason, there is still a possibility they could add salary by bringing back a key member of their Super Bowl team.

On Tuesday, during a media scrum at this week’s NFL owner meetings, Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay claimed that the team is still interested in bringing back Odell Beckham Jr. (via Tom Pelissero). McVay made it known that he “loves” the three-time Pro Bowler, but “there’s a lot of other teams interested so they’ll see how it plays out.”

Odell Beckham Jr. was a mid-season addition to the Rams roster in 2021 and became a part of a deadly receiving combo with fellow str Cooper Kupp. The 30-year-old tore his ACL for a second time in the first half of the Super Bowl and did not play for any team last season.

Beckham Jr. invited teams to an open workout recently in the hope that he could end his year-long stay on the free-agent market and find a home for next season. The Los Angeles Rams were interested in bringing him back last season before it became clear he was not ready to play in 2022. With his value falling in recent weeks, the team has as good a chance as ever to possibly sign him.

The New York Jets have recently been rumored to be a top contender for the former Browns and Giants star.
