MLB players pick Los Angeles Dodgers to win World Series, surprise team lands at 5

Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

The Los Angeles Dodgers are mere hours away from opening up the 2024 MLB regular season against the division-rival San Diego Padres in South Korea.

The first of their two-game set will start at 6:05 AM ET on Wednesday. Fresh off a highly-productive offseason, Los Angeles will send the recently-acquired Tyler Glasnow to the mound against Yu Darvish.

Expectations are obviously sky high for the Dodgers after they broke the bank for Shohei Ohtani and Yoshinobu Yamamoto in MLB free agency.

Can Dave Roberts’ squad live up to these expectations? We won’t find out until well into the season or once the MLB Playoffs start. But Wednesday morning is our first real opportunity to see this new team in action.

If a poll taken of MLB players is any indication, others around the baseball world firmly believe that the Dodgers will win the title this coming fall.

MLB asked who will win the World Series if your team doesn’t? Los Angeles came in at No. 1 and are followed by the Atlanta Braves.

  1. Los Angeles Dodgers
  2. Atlanta Braves
  3. Baltimore Orioles
  4. Philadelphia Phillies
  5. New York Yankees

None of the top four can be seen as too much of a surprise. Though, the Yankees coming in at five with their rotation being seen as a question mark is a pretty big surprise. That’s especially true with reigning AL Cy Young winner Gerrit Cole sidelined for at least the first month of the regular season.

As for the Dodgers, they legitimately have the feel of a super team. While reigning AL MVP Shohei Ohtani will not pitch, his presence in the lineup with Mookie Betts and Freddie Freeman is hard to overlook.

Meanwhile, Yamamoto will start Thursay morning after signing a record-breaking contract from Japan this past winter.

Yeah, all eyes will be on the Dodgers to officially open up the MLB regular season Wednesday morning.
