The Los Angeles Dodgers pulled off a trade for Toronto Blue Jays infielder Cavan Biggio earlier this week. Biggio had been designated for assignment after struggling at the plate up north. He figures to be a backup at second base and third base.
For the first place Dodgers, this doesn’t necessarily settle their middle infield situation. Mookie Betts has been holding down the fort at shortstop after moving from the outfield. He’s a much better defensive second baseman.
Speaking of the keystone, Gavin Lux (.218 average, .561 OPS) has struggled to get things going at the plate thus far this season.
According to Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports, this could lead to Los Angeles making a play for a shortstop ahead of this summer’s MLB trade deadline.
It’s no secret that front office head Andrew Friedman is going to be active before the trade deadline. He’s among the most aggressive at his position in the game.
The question here is obvious. Who might be available at this key position? It’s an area of weakness around the MLB world. As things play out in the coming weeks, more teams might find themselves as sellers. That could increase the market for Los Angeles.

Los Angeles Dodgers trade options at shortstop
At 42-27 on the season, it’s not pressing for the Dodgers to make a move now. There are still several weeks before the in-season trade deadline. There are also several players who could act as a boost at shortstop. Here look at two options.
Paul DeJong of the Chicago White Sox comes to mind first. Chicago is in the midst of a potentially historically bad season and will likely sell off assets. DeJong is hitting .236 with 13 homers, 38 RBI and a .772 OPS on the campaign. He’s better than any internal options the Dodgers have.
Remaining in the American league, it also wouldn’t be a surprise if Los Angeles talked trade with the Toronto Blue Jays after acquiring Biggio. Toronto entered MLB games today at 33-35. Shoulld the disappointing team struggle over the next couple weeks, there is a chance Bo Bichette becomes available.
