An NFL insider claims it would take a miracle for the Los Angeles Chargers to not fire head coach Brandon Staley after the season.
With the 2023 NFL schedule passed the midway point, firing season is in full swing around the league. In Week 8, the Las Vegas Raiders took the bold step of firing both head coach Josh McDaniels and general manager Dave Ziegler. In the weeks following, the Buffalo Bills and Pittsburgh Steelers ousted their offensive coordinators. And this week brought the stunning dismissal of Carolina Panthers head coach Frank Reich in his first season.

The patience of organizations when it comes to head coaches is as short as ever and the recent firings have pushed the speculation of who could be next into high gear. And without a doubt, Los Angeles Chargers head coach Brandon Staley is at the top of most expert’s list and on a very hot seat.

However, a new report claims there is no longer reason to wonder because the 40-year-old will need an absolutely shocking finish to the season to avoid the unemployment line early in 2024.
“Brandon Staley, barring a miracle down the stretch, is out with the Los Angeles Chargers,” Bleacher Report NFL insider Jordan Schultz said on Tuesday. “The reason is they have not had sustained success. They’ve only been to one playoff game in three-plus years — that was a catastrophic loss to the Jaguars. Their defense is consistently at the bottom half, or in this season, bottom five in every single major statistical category including total defense where they are dead last.”
Staley has a 23-22 after 45 games during three seasons as the Chargers head coach. After winning 10 games last year, he is in the midst of his worst year yet as LA enters Week 13 with a disappointing 4-7 record. Young star Justin Herbert has also been Staley’s starting QB for all three of his seasons leading the Chargers.
