NBA fans have gotten to love and hate LeBron James for the past 21 seasons, but eventually, the Los Angeles Lakers superstar’s reign has to come to an end. Some may say that he’s already passed the torch to the likes of Joel Embiid, Giannis Antetokounmpo, and other younger basketball icons.

Yet, James is still here, playing at a high level, having reached 20 consecutive NBA All-Star nods. But again, even the 39-year-old ‘kid’ from Akron is human. Not even LeBron James can play forever.
LeBron James knows he doesn’t have many seasons left in NBA
Now having a chance to breathe at the All-Star break in the midst of a daunting 82-game season, LeBron James was asked about his future, not with the Los Angeles Lakers, but in the NBA as a whole. How much time does he have left?
“I have not mapped out how many seasons I have left, I know it’s not that many. I am a Laker, I am happy and have been very happy being a Laker these last six years, and hopefully it stays that way. I don’t have the answer to how long it is, or which uniform I’ll be in,” James said, talking about his potential retirement. “Hopefully it is the Lakers, it is a great organization, so many greats. I don’t know how it’s going to end, but it’s coming. It’s coming for sure.”
LeBron James responding to questions about his NBA future
James has a $51.4 million player option to decide on once the Lakers’ season ends. Most expect James to play at least one more season and possibly more. He’s also indicated a desire to team up with his son, Bronny James, which could have a direct impact on how many more years LeBron plays.
