While many NFL observers and fans expect the Houston Texans to take a quarterback with the second pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, rumors persist that they could go in a very direction.

The Houston Texans are in the midst of another culture change after hiring San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator DeMeco Ryans to be their next head coach. Along with the change in style and play, the team has a clear need for something new and fresh at QB.

The Houston Texans have not recovered from their relationship with star signal-caller Deshaun Watson falling apart two years ago. And Quarterback is by far the most important position in the NFL. So if you don’t have a top-10 level player at the spot then competing for a Super Bowl title is highly unlikely.

However, the organization has a top-two selection in a year when there are two QB prospects that have a real chance of being stars in the NFL. It was would seem logical and obvious that the Houston Texans will take either Bryce Young or CJ Stroud with their pick in this month’s event, but it is starting to seem more and more likely that may not be what happens.

Houston Texans record (2022): 3-13, last place in AFC South

Over the last week, there have been rumblings that the Texans selecting a quarterback is not a foregone conclusion. Now, a new report from ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter suggests that Houston Texans, and not the Arizona Cardinals, could be the next team to trade out of a prime spot in the 2023 NFL Draft.

“The Houston Texans are going to be faced with a very interesting decision at No. 2. I continue to believe that Bryce Young is the favorite to be the No. 1 overall pick [and] go to Carolina. That he will wind up as a Panther and then the Houston Texans will be sitting there at No. 2, facing a decision about whether they want to go with CJ Stroud, trade the pick, or pick the best player on their board.

And to me, we’ve heard all about Arizona entertaining notions about trading the No. 3 overall pick, six teams have called about acquiring the pick, but some of those teams may be calling the Houston Texans, who might be open to listening when the draft rolls around.”

Earlier this week it was reported that as many as six teams have called the Cardinals about their pick, however, those same teams may also be calling the Houston Texans soon if they haven’t already.

The Carolina Panthers made a blockbuster with the Chicago Bears last month to trade up to the top spot and take a QB in this year’s draft.
