Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Derek Carr said Tuesday he would “probably quit football” if he ever got traded.
Carr, 30, a subject of occasional trade rumors in the past, said he remains steadfastly loyal to the team that drafted him in the second round in 2014.
“I’d probably quit football if I had to play for somebody else,” he said following Tuesday’s minicamp practice in Henderson, Nev. “I am a Raider for my entire life. I’m going to root for one team for the rest of my life — it’s the Raiders. So, I just feel that so strong in my heart I don’t need a perfect situation … to make things right.”
The three-time Pro Bowl selection was asked about why he opted to remain silent throughout the offseason while such contemporaries as Deshaun Watson, Aaron Rodgers and Russell Wilson aired various grievances.
“I’m that old-school mentality — I’m playing for one team and that’s it,” Carr said. “Whether we’ve won enough or not, I literally give every bit of energy and effort that I can to this organization and when I sign a contract, I completely, in my mind, have to fulfill that. I committed to that. I put my name on paper.”
Carr signed a five-year, $125 million extension in June 2017.
Including an 8-8 record in 2020, he is 47-63 as the Raiders’ starter and owns the franchise records for passing yards (26,896), touchdown passes (170), completions (2,468) and attempts (3,830).
