Following speculation during the NFL playoffs that Kansas City’s beloved leader could retire, the Chiefs are instead prepared to sign him to a new contract that will make him one of the wealthiest coaches in pro sports.

According to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network, the Chiefs and Reid are expected to begin negotiations on a new contract extension in the coming weeks. The new extension is expected to make Reid the highest-paid coach in football.

Reid isn’t the only one in Kansas City expected to receive both a pay raise and more long-term job security. Chiefs general manager Brett Veach is also reportedly in line for a deal. While he originally signed an extension in 2019 and has two years remaining on his deal, Kansas City is prepared to reward him after it became the first repeat Super Bowl winners in two decades.

As for Chiefs’ players, their time for renegotiated deals and extensions will come. Veach is making it a top priority to re-sign All-Pro defensive tackle Chris Jones this offseason. As for quarterback Patrick Mahomes Kansas City is already working to adjust his contract in a move that would create massive cap savings for 2024.
