Defending champion Kansas City Chiefs to host game in Germany during 2023 NFL season

Fresh off earning their second Super Bowl championship in four seasons, the Kansas City Chiefs have become an international brand.

It helps that Kansas City boasts one of the faces of the NFL in that of two-time regular-season and Super Bowl MVP Patrick Mahomes. It’s also not going to end any time soon with this team looking like a legitimate contender for the foreseeable future.

As the league has done with its most marketable products, the NFL is looking to cash in on Kansas City’s world-wide popularity. That now includes a report from Peter King of NBC Sports that the Chiefs are set to host a game in Germany during the 2023 NFL season.

According to King, the NFL is planning on Germany hosting two regular-season games in 2023 after the smashing success it saw with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers doing battle against the Seattle Seahawks last season.

King’s report indicates that both the Kansas City Chiefs and New England Patriots are set to host games at Deutsche Bank Park in Frankfurt during an eight-day span next fall. Rumors indicate that Kansas City will “host” Justin Fields and the Chicago Bears. Meanwhile, New England will take on the New Orleans Saints.

Originally built in 1925 and renovated back in 2005, Deutsche Bank Park holds roughly 52,000 people and has a retractable roof. That’s ideal for the NFL given the uncertain weather conditions in Europe during the fall.

First off, the NFL has expanded its international series a great deal recently. It includes the United Kingdom and Germany in Europe and Mexico here in North America. Commissioner Roger Goodell and Co. have also sought out a potential game in China. However, things are tricky in that regard given the pollution issues within the borders of the Eastern superpower as well as strained relations with the United States.

However, it should not be considered too much of a surprise that the Chiefs will be featured next season in Europe. The popularity of this brand extends far beyond the borders of the United States.

It’s in this that Kansas City has joined the likes of the Dallas Cowboys, Las Vegas Raiders and San Francisco 49ers as popular world-wide entities within the NFL.

During last season’s game in Germany, nearly 70,000 people showed up to watch Brady lead his Buccaneers over the Seahawks in Munich. American football has grown leaps and bounds within the confines of the European country.
