The Jacksonville Jaguars thought their hopes of tanking for Trevor Lawrence were dead, until the New York Jets gave them an early Christmas gift in Week 15. On Sunday, with the team in a crucial race for the No. 1 pick, fans found something new to celebrate in Week 16.

After Jacksonville’s offense drove down the field for a go-ahead field goal to open the game, fans at TIAA Bank Field started to worry. While it was early in the game, the Jaguars looked competent against the Chicago Bears.

Fortunately, the fans could breathe a sigh of relief a few minutes later. Mitchell Trubisky drove Chicago’s offense into the red zone, connecting with former Jaguars wide receiver Allen Robinson for some big plays. Then, Trubisky dropped back and delivered a strike to Jimmy Graham to recapture the lead.

As soon as the ball was caught, the Jaguars’ fans in attendance erupted into celebration. The awful team they have watched all year reappeared and was one step closer to another loss.

In defense of the fan base, it’s not like the organization is putting in much effort. Jacksonville listed star running back James Robinson among its inactive, featuring multiple starters, and gave the nod to Mike Glennon on Sunday.

For much of the season, the Jets seemed destined for the No. 1 overall pick and the draft rights to Trevor Lawrence. Of course, that all changed when Adam Gase’s team inexplicably beat the Los Angeles Rams in Week 15.

It already looks like the Jaguars will get blown out by the Bears on Sunday. That will put them on the verge of securing the NFL’s worst record and an opportunity to draft a general quarterback talent to build their franchise around.
