The (2) Iowa Hawkeyes women’s basketball team lost in overtime to the (18) Ohio State Buckeyes on Sunday afternoon in what can only be classified as an upset on Sunday. While the Hawkeyes only lost by eight points, despite Caitlin Clark’s magnificent effort, where she had 45 points and seven assists, the biggest story was actually what happened after the final buzzer sounded.

Ohio State Buckeyes fan smacks into Caitlin Clark after Iowa Hawkeyes upset
Caitlin Clark came just one point away from tying her career-high in scoring, yet somehow, that’s not even close to the biggest takeaway from Sunday’s game.
Any time a college team emerges with a major upset victory on their home court, fans can’t help but rush the field of play. That’s exactly what happened when the Buckeyes defeated the Hawkeyes 100-92 in a thrilling overtime win at Value City Arena.
Yet, Iowa’s Caitlin Clark hadn’t had a chance to get back to the locker room yet, and when fans began rushing the court, the 2022-23 AP Player of the Year collided with one excited spectator who never saw Clark coming.
Onlookers quickly rushed to Clark’s assistance, and thankfully she’s okay. More on that in a bit, but here’s the clip of the incident.
Once reached for comment, Clark noted that she was not injured while acknowledging Ohio State’s athletic director Gene Smith has already apologized for the incident. Still, she says the entire encounter was “kind of scary.”
“Kind of scary, could’ve caused a pretty serious injury to me and knocked the wind out of me, but luckily my teammates kind of picked me up and got me off the court,” Clark said, before adding that it, “comes with the territory.”
