Indianapolis Colts reportedly pursuing star receiver from Denver Broncos

The Indianapolis Colts have reportedly checked in about what it will take to land one of the Denver Broncos starting receivers before the NFL trade deadline.

To start the 2023 NFL season, the Indianapolis Colts have been one of the nice surprises in the AFC. The team enters their Week 6 game against division rivals the Jacksonville Jaguars with a 3-2 record. And under new head coach Shane Steichen, the team has been much improved but received some very tough news this week.

During their win over the Tennessee Titans last week, rookie quarterback Anthony Richardson injured the AC joint in his throwing arm. It led the organization to place him on injured reserve this week and a follow-up report suggested he could miss as much as eight weeks.

However, in a relief role backup QB Gardner Minshew has been rock solid and it seems his play may have given Indy enough confidence that trying to improve the team before the trade deadline might be worth it. And it looks like the Colts have an interest in one of the most sought-after receivers on the trade block.

On Thursday afternoon, Colts beat reporter Destin Adams claimed “Sources tell me that the Colts have called the Broncos about Jerry Jeudy who many around the league believe will be traded before the deadline this year.”

  • Jerry Jeudy stats (2022): 67 catches, 972 yards, 6 touchdowns, 14.5 yards per catch

Jeudy has drawn interest from around the league since the offseason, however, Denver decided to hold on to him for their 2023 campaign. Unfortunately, the team is 1-4 and headed toward a fire sale before the Oct. 31 NFL trade deadline.

Seeking out another strong receiver makes sense for the Colts since they need more weapons in the passing game to take the load off rising star Michael Pittman Jr.

Jeudy came up just shy of a 1,000-yard season in 2022 and pulled in six touchdowns for a terrible Broncos offense last season.
