NBA insider claims Houston Rockets could pair James Harden with specific All-Star big man

The Houston Rockets are expected to be aggressive this summer to make their squad playoff caliber, and that could mean adding a pair of superstar players.

After three seasons, the Houston Rockets rebuild has not gone well. While they won the most games they have during that span this season, it was only a lottery worthy 22 victories. After 12 straight seasons of winning, it’s not surprising that the organization is becoming impatient with its slow rebuild.

That is why they are expected to be very aggressive with the boatload of salary cap space they have, as well as their top-four pick in this month’s NBA Draft. Since December, there have been rumors of a reunion this summer with the man who won an MVP award with them in the previous decade, James Harden. But Harden at the end of his career isn’t enough to guarantee a playoff birth next season.

That is why there has been speculation the Houston Rockets could target two All-Stars this summer, and it is something Bleacher Report NBA insider Eric Pincus went into some depth about on Friday.

Houston Rockets projected summer cap space: $59 million

While there are various players the Houston Rockets could pursue to pair with James Harden this summer, an interesting name that Pincus suggested could be on Houston’s radar is Minnesota Timberwolves star Karl-Anthony Towns.

Pincus explained that the adjusted salary cap in the new collective bargaining agreement will make keeping Towns, Anthony Edwards, Rudy Gobert, and Jaden McDaniels long-term impossible. And Towns could be the odd man out.

“Other competing executives think Karl-Anthony Towns will be long gone ahead of the 2024-25 campaign. Some even believe Minnesota would jump at an opportunity in the next few weeks,” Pincus wrote.

While Houston doesn’t have the point guard Minnesota needs and wants, a deal that includes the fourth overall pick, last year’s first-rounder Jabari Smith Jr. and more draft assets could certainly be appealing to the Timberwolves.
