A key member of the Kansas City Chiefs coaching staff who left before the start of the 2023-24 season is reportedly back with the team just in time for Super Bowl 58 on Sunday.

The Chiefs have become the new dynasty team in sports due to having an explosive offense led by superstar quarterback Patrick Mahomes. For the last few years, they have been able to put up points with the best of them as future Hall-of-Famer Travis Kelce and several other players have added to their legacy with big performances on offense in recent seasons.

  • Kansas City Chiefs offensive ranks (2023-24): 6th in passing, 19th in rushing, 9th in total yards 15th in scoring

However, it has been a very different story this season. Kansas City is actually in their year’s Super Bowl in spite of their offense. The unit has been inefficient, they’ve made surprising mistakes and don’t look like the group that stormed to a championship in 2023.

Many around the team believe that is due to Eric Bieniemy ending his successful six-year run as offensive coordinator to take the same role with the Washington Commanders. Well, it seems the former OC is now back in the fold just in time to help the team win back-to-back Super Bowl titles.

Several weeks ago, some league insiders speculated that Bieniemy could return to the franchise after the Commanders fired head coach Ron Rivera. However, the organization chose to hold on to their staff until they picked a new head coach. Which they did last week when they gave the job to Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator Dan Quinn.

Yet, even before Quinn was officially hired, it seems Bieniemy was allowed to seek work with another organization and quickly went back to working for his old team.

“Eric Bieniemy was in the Chiefs meetings before the AFC title game and spent some time with some offensive players,” NFL Media reporter James Palmer revealed on Wednesday. “Some players have said they’ve missed EB. Nice to see him spend some time with them.”

Bieniemy was a massive part of the Chiefs’ success on offense the last six years, and if there was any doubt their statistical declines this season with all their key players healthy was further proof. They will need all the help they can get when they face a very talented San Francisco 49ers defense on Sunday.
