There are rumblings from inside the Miami Dolphins locker room that suggest new Philadelphia Eagles defensive coordinator Vic Fangio was not liked by “quite a few” of his former players in Miami.
Earlier this week brought surprising news when it was revealed that after just one season in South Beach, veteran defensive coordinator Vic Fangio was parting ways with the Dolphins, and would immediately take on the same role with the Eagles. It was a surprising development after the 65-year-old seemingly had a positive impact on the defense and turned them into a top-10 group in our defense rankings.

The news was viewed as a major coup for Philadelphia since the organization was in search of a new defensive coordinator, and Fangio is a highly respected defensive mind around the NFL, including by Eagles general manager Howie Roseman. However, some new information may reveal why the Miami Dolphins were willing to part with the 23-year NFL veteran after just one season.
Following the news of Fangio’s departure, a pair of Dolphins defensive players — including Jevon Holland — posted messages on social media that seemed to indicate happiness that their former coach was gone. Furthermore, NFL super agent Drew Rosenhaus revealed some extra inside information on the divide between Fangio and his players.

“There were quite a few players on the team that didn’t necessarily get along with Fangio,” he said during an interview for 94 WIP radio in Philadelphia. “And so, it wasn’t a great relationship with many of the players. There were some guys that loved him, but there was quiet a few that didn’t. It definitely wasn’t a unanimous, positive relationship.”
While it could just be spin from Miami, it is something to certainly worry about. Fangio has been around the game for a long time, and there is always a fear of older coaches getting out of touch with current players. Plus, there were many rumblings of dissension already in the Philadelphia Eagles locker room toward the end of a disappointing season in 2023-24.
