Detroit Tigers Bullpen Management

  • How is Brad Ausmus been handling his first season as manager for the Detroit Tigers?
  • What would a revolutionary bullpen approach be?
  • Who should we expect to see winning the American League Central this year?
  • Listen in to find out more!

TC and Neil are not pulling any punches when it comes to talking about the Tigers bullpen in this podcast. While the guys are quick to point out the four-man rotation is something we don’t frequently see from teams in major league baseball these days, is it truly the revolution to the bullpen that Ausmus is supposed to bring to the team? It seems that the best approach to being in charge of the bullpen might just be using common sense. Putting the best players in when they are needed, when they might just make a difference, not waiting until they are slated for specific innings.

We also get some information about sabermetrics. When we had on Bryan Grosnick a few weeks ago we got a bit of information about what WAR was (Wins Above Replacement), today we learn a little bit about FIP. FIP is Fielding Independent Pitching, and is proving to be a great predictor of future ERA for a player. In addition to looking at the ERA versus the FIP of a few current players, TC and Neil take a look at who will be leading the charge toward the American League Central title this season. Before the guys call the game, Neil presents us with his favorite baseball player names. It’s a great list for sure!
