It seemed to come completely out of left field late last week. Reports surfacing that a Deshaun Watson trade could very well happen with the Houston Texans’ quarterback being unhappy about the direction of the organization.

Watson’s unhappiness apparently stems from an unwillingness of owner Cal McNair and Co. to work with him as it relates to hiring a new head coach and general manager.

Other reports suggest that Watson is extremely angry at the organization and could look to force himself from Houston. We now have more information on this, and it’s not great for the Texans.

“Reports about Deshaun Watson’s unhappiness with Houston Texans are accurate and sources close to the QB say he is still angry about team’s insensitivity to social justice, including hiring practices, after the franchise failed to interview Chiefs OC Eric Bienemy this past week,” ESPN’s Chris Mortensen reported Sunday.

The NFL insider went on to note that a Deshaun Watson trade to the Miami Dolphins could potentially be in the cards. Watson has a no-trade clause, and could really force the Texans’ hands.

Said report suggests that Watson would consider the Dolphins in a trade that would ultimately send Tua Tagovailoa and multiple draft picks back to Houston.

We previously mentioned the Dolphins as a potential option in a Deshaun Watson trade. Interestingly enough, they boast the No. 3 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft from Houston in a separate Laremy Tunsil blockbuster trade. That could be used along with Tua to net Miami one of the best young quarterbacks of his generation.

As for the Texans-related drama, it’s no surprise that Watson is upset about the direction of the organization. This recent report suggesting that he’s unhappy about the organization’s stance on social justice has been years in the making.

Back in 2017, then-owner Bob McNair made news by saying “you can’t have inmates running the prison” in response to widespread national anthem protests.

It has been a longstanding issue with the organization. From a coaching and player personnel perspective, Watson is still upset about the ill-fated trade that sent DeAndre Hopkins to the Arizona Cardinals ahead of the 2020 season. He’s also upset that the Texans’ brass did not communicate with him prior to the hiring of general manager Nick Caserio.

Deshaun Watson trade: What a blockbuster deal might look like

Taking a look at a hypothetical Texans-Dolphins trade, Tua and the No. 3 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft would likely be the starting-off point. Miami would then have to offer up another first-round pick and change.

It goes without saying that there’s no shortage of teams that would be interested in a Deshaun Watson trade. Outside of the Dolphins, the New England Patriots and San Francisco 49ers come to mind.

At this point, the unlikely might become the inevitable. Just a few short months after inking a monstrous extension, Deshaun Watson wants out of dodge. He has a no-trade clause. He can force his way out. All the while, the process of Houston bringing in a new head coach could be delayed further.
