We’re just over a month away from the 2024 NFL Draft, where Caleb Williams and several other top quarterback prospects will hear their names called over the loudspeaker at Campus Martius Park in Detroit, Michigan. Next year, Shedeur Sanders could be one of the first players to hear his name called by commissioner Roger Goodell too, once his college football career concludes with the Colorado Buffaloes.
While he’s still at least a year away from turning pro, his dad, Deion Sanders, Hall of Fame legend cornerback turned head coach, is already thinking about which NFL teams would be the best and worst fits for his son.
“Like, I don’t want my kid [Shedeur] going nowhere cold next year. He grew up in Texas. He played in Jackson, played in Colorado. Season’s over before it gets cold in Colorado. I’m just thinking way ahead. I don’t want that for him.”

The topic first came up when Coach Prime was asked about his thoughts about the Chicago Bears drafting Caleb Williams No. 1 overall. If that happens, Williams, who’s from the Washington D.C. area but has played college football in much warmer climates at Oklahoma and USC, has the difficult challenge of taking his talents to the cold, unforgiving weather of the Windy City.
“Let me tell you something that I have a problem with. And this kid (Caleb Williams) can flat out play, I think he’s the best one on the board this year for sure. A kid that’s coming from California for the last couple years, right? And went to Oklahoma. That’s not terribly cold. Chicago’s cold, man. You gotta think about that kind of stuff when you’re taking a young man. Like see, when you take a guy from Ohio State and you bring him to Chicago, OK, I could understand that. But from California to Chicago? Not only that, they added what? One or two more games in the NFL. Seventeen games. Come on, man. You gotta factor in that stuff. That stuff matters.”

We’ll see how Williams handles himself in Chicago, but based on Deion’s comments, it could somehow directly impact Shedeur’s future. If Williams struggles, odds are the chances of Shedeur’s family being thrilled about playing in colder climates won’t improve. Meanwhile, if Williams thrives, then perhaps Deion’s comments won’t be a factor on draft day, but it’s something to keep in mind for next year when draft rumors begin again.
