The Dallas Mavericks’ busy offseason continued on Wednesday with multiple reports indicating that they have acquired forward Grant Williams from the Boston Celtics in a three-team sign-and-trade.
According to Shams Charania of The Athletic, the San Antonio Spurs are also involved in the trade. They take on the contract of Reggie Bullock and receive an unprotected first-round pick swap from Dallas for their troubles.
ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reports that both Boston and Dallas will receive two future first-round picks, too. The details of those selections are not yet known.
In turn, the Mavericks signed Williams — a restricted free agent — to a four-year, $53 million contract.

Despite his stellar three-point shooting, Williams fell out of favor under first-year head coach Joe Mazzulla in 2022-23. He averaged just 5.1 points in less than 18 minutes of action in the playoffs.

Dallas Mavericks add another piece in Grant Williams
General manager Nico Harrison and Co. have been extremely active this summer after a disappointing 2022-23 season. That includes re-signing star guard Kyrie Irving to pair with Luka Doncic moving forward.
Dallas also acquired veteran center Richaun Holmes in a draft-day deal with the Sacramento Kings while signing guard Seth Curry during NBA free agency.
In Williams, Dallas acquires a 24-year-old player who can play three positions. He’s best suited as a three or four moving forward.
As for the Boston Celtics, they have now moved on from the likes of Marcus Smart and Grant Williams, both of whom were in the rotation a season ago. Dallas has also brought in star big man Kristaps Porzingis in a trade with the Washington Wizards while signing Oshae Brissett in NBA free agency.
