Dallas Cowboys owner takes a public jab at Mike McCarthy’s coaching in Week 6

While the Dallas Cowboys got a bounce-back win on Monday Night Football, the team’s owner believes his head coach mismanaged the clock and missed a worthwhile opportunity during the game.

In Week 5, the Dallas Cowboys were absolutely trounced by the San Francisco 49ers. Their 42-10 defeat was an embarrassing moment for the franchise and there was certainly a lot of motivation for the players and coaching staff to get that bad taste out of their mouth in Week 6 versus the Los Angeles Chargers.

After a back-and-forth affair that was tied at 10 heading into the fourth quarter, the ‘Boys were able to explode for 10 big points in the final period and lock up a much-needed 20-17 victory on Monday. The win moved the team’s record to 4-2 and a game behind the first-place Philadelphia Eagles.

Yet, for all the positivity that came out of the win, the team’s boss was not thrilled with a specific decision made by head coach Mike McCarthy. Late in the second quarter, McCarthy passed on using his final timeout to take another shot at the endzone, and instead played it conservative by going for a field goal.

Luckily for McCarthy, those three points proved to be very pivotal in the final score. However, during a Tuesday appearance on 105.3 The Fan in Dallas Jones took a bit of a jab at how his head coach managed the final moments of the first half.

“I thought we should have tried another pass in the end zone, and used the clock accordingly,” Jones said.

When asked if McCarthy making that decision was a sign that he lacked confidence in quarterback Dak Prescott not turning the ball over, the Dallas boss said, “Not at all. No, that doesn’t reach that point with me at all.”

Prescott has four interceptions so far this season and led the NFL with 15 in 2022.
