Dallas Cowboys superstar Dak Prescott is hoping for a reunion with one of his favorite teammates, and a close friend, in 2023.

The Dallas Cowboys have been busy this offseason as they look to improve upon a strong 12-5 showing in the 2022 season. However, despite winning 12 games they were not even the best team in their own division. That is why the goal of the offseason has been to make the roster more formidable to compete with the NFC champion Philadelphia Eagles.

Beyond making sure they had Pro Bowl running back Tony Pollard back on the roster in 2023, the Dallas Cowboys also swung big trades for star cornerback Stephon Gilmore, and talented wide receiver Brandin Cooks. Yet, while they have made a couple of major additions, there was one noteworthy subtraction this spring.

Ahead of the start of NFL free agency, the Dallas Cowboys cut ties with seven-year veteran Ezekiel Elliott. The move was not a surprise and expected by many as the three-time Pro Bowler was set to make more money than the organization wanted to pay for a backup running back.

However, a month has passed and Elliott is still available on the open market, and Dak Prescott told NFL insider Adam Schefter this week that he and quite a few people in the Dallas Cowboys organization would “love” to see Ezekiel Elliott re-signed before the start of the 2023 season.

“I know myself, and I can tell you there’s a lot of people not only on the team but the organization that would love that. We understand that this is a business and the market changes and things go up and down, so it doesn’t always work out the way we see it, but hopefully, that could happen.

“[He’s] been my locker room buddy for years and just a guy I’ll go to war with, and I’ll do anything for in this world. It’s tough not going to work with him now, but change is good as well, and I’ve got to embrace that and embrace what we’ve got moving forward, and I’m excited for it.”

Elliott and Prescott were both drafted by the Dallas Cowboys in the 2016 NFL Draft. It is unclear which teams around the league are interested in signing the one-time All-Pro.
