Dak Prescott has a worrying opinion about Dallas Cowboys’ embarrassing loss to 49ers in Week 5

Following an absolute thrashing by the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday Night Football, Dallas Cowboys star Dak Prescott seems to be at a loss for why the team was so soundly beaten in Week 5.

The Dallas Cowboys entered their pivotal 2022 playoffs rematch with the San Francisco 49ers this weekend with a great deal of confidence. Sure, they weren’t good a couple of weeks ago in a loss to the lowly Arizona Cardinals. However, they bounced back resoundingly in Week 4 with a destructive 38-3 victory over the New England Patriots.

Furthermore, when they faced the 49ers this time around they had a defense just as formidable as their foes on Sunday night. Yet, unlike last season where the Cowboys fell in a highly competitive game in San Francisco, in 2023 they were completely dominated on both sides of the ball in a 42-10 defeat. It was a loss that will go down in the lore of this decades-long rivalry as one of the worst Dallas has ever had.

Usually following such evenings, coaches and players can often point to clear mistakes, or underestimations of their opponents as the cause for a decisive loss. Especially after Dak Prescott tossed three interceptions on the night, and in three straight drives. However, after the game, the two-time Pro Bowler seemed at a complete loss to explain what happened this weekend.

“Didn’t see it coming,” Prescott said to the media after the loss. “Put everything into it and got punched in the mouth. Called it a couple of weeks ago humbling, against Arizona, but this may be the most humbling I’ve ever been a part of. Felt good about the preparation and felt good about everything, honestly, coming into this game, matchups, and they beat us in every aspect.”

Yesterday’s game was only the second time that Prescott three three interceptions in one outing. The last time came over four years ago in a 34-24 loss to the Green Bay Packers. The 30-year-old threw 15 interceptions last season, the most of his career, and is now a quarter of the way there after five games this season.

It has to be worrisome for Prescott to be at a loss about what went wrong for Dallas on Sunday, especially since the offense has not been as impressive in 2023 as it was last season. Clearly, there are some things head coach and offensive play caller Mike McCarthy must figure out in the coming weeks.
